The Winston and the Cambridge are the two Whitmore Estates plans with the owner's suite upstairs and a study on the first floor. The Winston has four bedrooms and is about 3,786 square feet. The Cambridge has five bedrooms, adds a club room, and is about 4,056. The Cambridge starts roughly seventy thousand dollars higher, as a rounded recent gap. If you need a fifth bedroom and a second living room downstairs, that gap buys you both.

This guide walks both plans through room by room, then tells you what the extra money really gets you.

What the extra money buys

Going from the Winston to the Cambridge, you gain three real things and give up one.

You gain a fifth bedroom. Cambridge Bedroom 5 is on the first floor, next to the club room. It is a good fit for a guest, an in-law or a teenager who wants to be far from the stairs. The Winston also has a first-floor bedroom, but it has only four in total.

You gain a club room. The 15 foot 2 inch by 14 foot 4 inch club room is a second living space on the first floor. People use a space like this for games, for a play area, for a home gym or as a second office. It is on top of the study, which both plans have.

You gain a bigger Great Room and a bigger lanai. The Cambridge Great Room is a little wider than the Winston's, and the lanai is deeper, at 12 feet instead of 10. A lanai is a covered patio in back.

You give up the media room. The Winston has an upstairs media room at 14 feet 4 inches by 17 feet. The Cambridge plan has a loft upstairs, but it does not list a media room. If a media room matters to you, count that as a point for the Winston.

The honest trade-off

This is a trade of a media room for a club room and a bedroom. Many buyers would not guess it from the numbers, because both are close in square feet.

  • The Winston puts its extra room upstairs. The media room is away from the main living space. Sound stays upstairs.

  • The Cambridge puts its extra room downstairs. The club room is next to the Great Room and the study. It is easier to supervise young kids there, and easier for guests to use.

Neither is wrong. Think about who will use the extra room and when.

What to check when you walk each plan

A tour tells you things a table cannot. Try these:

  • Stand in the club room and in the media room. Ask yourself which one your family would really use on a normal Tuesday.

  • Walk from the owner's suite to the kitchen. Both plans put the owner's suite upstairs, so count the steps and the stairs.

  • Look at the garage. The Cambridge three-car garage is split into a two-car bay and a one-car bay. See how that fits the cars and gear you own.

  • Stand in the first-floor bedroom. Ask who would sleep there, and how far it is from the bath.

Who each plan fits

The Winston fits families that want a media room and a loft upstairs, a first-floor bedroom for guests, and the lower price of the two. Four bedrooms is enough for most households.

The Cambridge fits families that need five bedrooms, or want a second living room on the main floor. It also fits people who work from home and want a study plus a second room for the rest of the house.

If you want the owner's suite on the first floor, neither of these is the answer. Look at the Sussex and the Versailles. If you want one floor, look at the Maxwell.

What stays the same

Both plans share the same standard features. That list covers quartz counters, a GE Monogram stainless steel appliance package, impact-resistant windows and more. We list it all in what Lennar's Everything's Included means at Whitmore Estates. To see how these two compare with the rest of the lineup, our all five plans compared guide has the full table.
