His and Hers Closets at Greyhawk Landing: Prestige and Renown Compared

Walk-in closet in an owner's suite at Greyhawk Landing
In this article

“His and hers closets” is a phrase buyers use for an owner's suite with two separate walk-in closets, one for each person who shares the room. At Greyhawk Landing, DiVosta lists dual walk-in closets in two plans: the one-story Prestige and the one-story Renown. The Stellar and Reverence are described differently, each with one extra-large walk-in closet. Here is how the closet setups compare, and how to judge which one fits the way you live.

What Are His and Hers Closets?

The Cambridge Dictionary defines ""his and hers"" as ""a pair of similar things designed for a man and woman in a romantic relationship to use."" In a floor plan, the phrase points to two closets in the owner's suite, and any two people sharing the suite can use them.

You do not need to be a couple to want two closets. Many people use the second one for:

  • Out-of-season clothes

  • Shoes, bags and luggage

  • A home office corner or storage shelves

  • Overflow when guests stay

The point is space and order. Two closets mean two doors, two sets of rods and shelves, and no squeezing past each other in the morning.

The Two Plans With His and Hers Closets

Prestige: two closets in a smaller home

The Prestige is about 2,080 square feet, one story, with two to three bedrooms. DiVosta describes an owner's suite ""featuring a private bathroom and dual walk-in closets."" The photos also show an owner's bath with dual vanities.

If two closets matter to you but you do not need a big home, the Prestige is worth a close look. It starts only about two thousand dollars above the Mystique, whose photos show a single walk-in closet. We compared those two plans at another DiVosta community in our Hendrix Reserve plan matchup.

Renown: two closets plus a laundry pass-through

The Renown is about 2,808 square feet, one story, with three bedrooms and a three-car garage. DiVosta says its owner's suite ""provides space and organization with its dual walk-in closets and a laundry room pass-through.""

DiVosta's page does not draw out exactly how the pass-through connects. Ask the sales team to walk you through it in the model, so you can see the path from the laundry to the closets.

The Renown also has a flex room DiVosta suggests for a home office or gym. If you are planning that space, see ideas for a flex room in a new home.

The Single Big Closet Option: Stellar and Reverence

DiVosta describes one large walk-in closet in each of these plans.

  • Stellar (about 2,483 square feet): DiVosta highlights its ""spacious owner's suite with huge walk-in closet and en suite bath.""

  • Reverence (about 2,669 square feet): DiVosta describes ""an oversized walk-in closet for generous storage,"" plus a dual-sink vanity.

One big closet vs two smaller ones

One big closet is good when:

  • You like to see everything in one place.

  • You want room for an island, bench or shoe wall in the middle.

  • One person uses most of the space anyway.

Two closets are better when:

  • Two people get ready at the same time.

  • You want separate lighting, rods and shelves for each person.

  • You want to close one door and keep the other room private.

Neither is better for everyone. Stand in both on your tour and picture a busy weekday morning.

The Owner's Bath Matters Too

A closet works best next to a good bathroom. Here is what DiVosta lists for the owner's bath:

  • Every plan: DiVosta's standard features list includes an owner's bath with a full shower, an upgraded tile surround, a tile shower floor and a glass enclosure, plus a double-sink vanity.

  • Prestige: photos show an ""Owner's Bathroom with Dual Vanities"" and a ""Spa-Like Owner's Bathroom.""

  • Reverence: DiVosta mentions the bathroom ""with dual sink vanity,"" and a photo shows an ""Owner's Bathroom with Optional Tub and Walk-In Shower.""

  • Whitestone: photos show an ""Owner's Bathroom with Walk-in Shower and Tub.""

Two sinks and two closets go together well. Each person gets a sink, a mirror and a closet, so mornings move faster.

Tips for Sharing One Big Closet

If you choose a plan with one large closet, a few simple habits keep it working for two people:

  • Split it by wall. Give each person one side, with the shared items at the back.

  • Use the height. Double rods for shirts and pants fit twice as much on one wall.

  • Add a dresser. Folded items in drawers free up hanging space.

  • Keep shoes off the floor. Shelves or racks make the room feel bigger.

How to Judge a Closet on a Tour

Photos make every closet look big. Check these things in person:

  1. Hanging length. Count the feet of rods for long and short items.

  2. Shelf height. Can you reach the top shelf without a step stool?

  3. Light. Is there a ceiling light inside each closet? Is there a window or is it all artificial light?

  4. Door swing. Does the door open into the closet and block a wall of storage?

  5. Path from the bathroom. Do you walk through the bathroom to reach the closet, or the other way around?

  6. Upgrades. Ask which closet systems, drawers or shelving are standard and which are options.

Which Closet Setup Fits Your Mornings?

  • Two people leave for work at the same time: two closets and two sinks, as in the Prestige and Renown, cut down on waiting.

  • One person has most of the wardrobe: one large closet, as in the Stellar or Reverence, puts everything in one room.

  • You want the smallest home with the most closet: the Prestige, at about 2,080 square feet, still lists two walk-in closets.

  • You want a three-car garage too: the Renown is the plan that lists both a three-car garage and dual walk-in closets.

Want a Bigger Closet Setup?

If two closets are a must and you want a much larger home, DiVosta's Amara community also shows them. On Amara's page, the Oakley plan's photos are captioned ""Owner's Suite with Dual Walk-In Closets."" See the nine Amara plans, up to six bedrooms for that comparison.
