Coral Landings Kitchens: Side by Side vs French Door Refrigerator

In this article
Which is better in the side by side vs French door refrigerator debate? Neither wins every time. A side-by-side puts the freezer on one side and the fridge on the other, both full height. A French door puts two fridge doors on top and a freezer drawer below. Lennar includes a Frigidaire side-by-side refrigerator in every home at Coral Landings in Homestead. This guide explains what that means in a real kitchen.
You can see the community on our Coral Landings community details page. Every Lennar fact here comes from Lennar's plan pages, checked October 22, 2026.
What Lennar Includes
Lennar's kitchen list for all five Coral Landings plans says: ""Quality stainless steel appliance package includes a 30"" smooth surface electric range, built-in microwave and multi-cycle dishwasher,Frigidaire Side-by-Side Refrigerator.""
Another line on the same list says: ""New stainless steel appliance package includes an electric range, built-in microwave and a side-by-side refrigerator.""
So the refrigerator style is set. It is a side-by-side, and Lennar names Frigidaire as the brand. Ask the sales team for the exact model number and its size.

Side by Side vs French Door Refrigerator: How They Differ
Reviewed, a product testing site, explains the two styles.
Side-by-side. Reviewed says these ""situate the refrigerator and freezer side by side, each spanning the height of the unit."" It adds: ""The fridge is typically larger, so the door sits slightly off-center."" Reviewed also says ""The freezer is always on the left, and the fridge is always on the right.""
French door. Reviewed says these ""are arranged like bottom-freezer models, but with two refrigerator doors that open outward from the center, in the style of a French door.""
Here is the short version:
Side-by-side | French door | |
|---|---|---|
Fridge | One full-height side | Top, behind two doors |
Freezer | One full-height side | Drawer at the bottom |
Freezer space | Reviewed says usually more usable freezer room | Freezer is a drawer |
Tight walkway | Reviewed says it suits a tight walkway | Freezer drawer needs floor space |
You can read the full comparison on Reviewed's refrigerator guide.
Where a Side-by-Side Shines
Reviewed lists a few reasons to pick a side-by-side:
More freezer room. Reviewed says side-by-side models ""typically offer more usable freezer capacity than French-door models, since the freezer spans the full height of the unit rather than being confined to a bottom drawer.""
Tight kitchens. Reviewed says side-by-sides ""suit kitchens where the walkway in front of the fridge is tight.""
Cost. Reviewed says ""side-by-side models cost less on average.""
If your family buys frozen food in bulk, the tall freezer side can help.
Where a French Door Shines
Reviewed says ""French-door refrigerators generally offer more usable width for fridge storage and put fresh food at eye level.""
That wide fridge space helps with big, flat items. If you often chill wide trays or platters, a narrow fridge side may feel tight.
Reviewed also warns that a French door's ""freezer drawer needs clear floor space to pull out."" In a narrow kitchen, that matters.

The Coral Landings Kitchens
Here are the kitchen sizes on Lennar's floor-plan drawings:
Plan | Kitchen on the drawing |
|---|---|
Crownstone | 11' 3"" x 13' 7"" |
Empress | 8' 6"" x 14' 3"" |
Pearlstone | 11' 5"" x 10' |
Starlight | 12' 10"" x 9' 3"" |
Vanguard | 15' 2"" x 8' 6"" |
Some of these kitchens are long and narrow on paper, like the Empress and the Vanguard. Reviewed's point about walkways applies here. A side-by-side has no freezer drawer pulling into the aisle. Stand in the model and open the fridge doors. See how much room you have behind you.
Drawings can change. Measure the space if you plan to swap the fridge later.
Simple Tips for Living With a Side-by-Side
A side-by-side works best when you set it up to fit your habits:
Put daily items at eye level. Milk, eggs and snacks go on the middle shelves.
Use bins in the freezer. Tall freezer sides can get messy. Bins keep things sorted.
Label shelves for kids. Everyone knows where things go.
Keep wide items low. Larger trays usually fit best on a bottom shelf. Measure yours.
Check the door seals. At your walk-through, open and close both doors. They should close all the way.
Before Your First Grocery Run
Moving week is busy. A few steps help the new fridge get off to a good start:
Wipe the shelves and bins.
Set the temperature to the setting in the owner's manual.
Give it time to cool before you load it up.
Register the fridge with the maker using the model number.
Questions to Ask Lennar About the Kitchen
What is the Frigidaire model number?
Does the fridge have an ice maker or water dispenser?
Is there a water line behind the fridge?
Who handles appliance warranty claims in year one?
Can You Swap the Fridge Later?
Lennar's list names the side-by-side. If you want a French door fridge someday, you could buy one after you move in. Before you do, measure three things:
The width, height and depth of the fridge space.
The walkway in front of it.
The doorway you will carry it through.
Reviewed says refrigerator styles ""vary in width, height, and depth."" It also says to ""Measure the walkway, not just the cutout."" Keep the original fridge paperwork either way.
The Rest of the Kitchen
The fridge is one piece. Lennar's list for the Coral Landings kitchens also includes:
Solid surface countertops with a 6"" backsplash
Kitchen cabinets with 36"" uppers and brushed nickel hardware
A 30"" smooth surface electric range, a built-in microwave and a multi-cycle dishwasher
A stainless steel sink with a pull-down faucet
A pantry closet with ventilated shelves
Recessed LED downlighting
Want to know more about those pieces? Our guide to solid surface countertops explains the counter material. Our guide to what 36-inch upper cabinets mean covers the cabinets. If you want more pantry space than a closet, read our explainer on the walk-in pantry.
For the full standard list, including the roof and the Lennar warranty, see our Coral Landings architectural shingles and included-features guide.
Next Door to the Kitchen
In the Crownstone, Empress and Starlight, the powder room is on the same floor as the kitchen. Our Coral Landings powder room and pedestal sink guide explains that small bath.
