"Krome Avenue is the main north-south road through Homestead, Florida. It is also known by a state road number, SR 997, and by the name SW 177th Avenue. The builder says Ivy Ranch is just west of Krome Avenue. If you are thinking about a home at Ivy Ranch, knowing this road helps you read maps and directions.

This guide explains the three names, the roads we could confirm that connect to it, and what you will find along its downtown stretch. It names roads and does not give drive times, because times change with traffic.

One Road, Three Names

Many people get confused, because the same road shows up with different labels.

• Krome Avenue. This is the name most people use in Homestead.

• SR 997. This is the state road number. Wikipedia lists the route as Florida State Road 997.

• SW 177th Avenue. One road guide, AARoads, calls it SW 177th Avenue. Wikipedia calls it West 177th Avenue.

What the Road Does

According to Wikipedia, SR 997 runs north and south through western Miami-Dade County. Its southern end is described as the point where it meets SR 998 on Campbell Drive in Homestead. Its northern end is at US 27, the road also known as Okeechobee Road.

Wikipedia also says it works as a bypass around the western side of Miami. In Homestead, the road runs through town as Krome Avenue.

The Roads We Could Confirm

Here are the roads that connect to Krome Avenue in Homestead, as listed on a road guide and on Wikipedia.

• Campbell Drive, also called SR 998 and SW 312th Street. The guide says SR 998 is the state-maintained link from Krome Avenue east to US 1.

• Flagler Avenue. The guide says Krome Avenue passes Flagler Avenue, which it describes as the old alignment of US 1.

• Palm Drive, also called SR 9336. The guide says Krome Avenue meets Palm Drive, which heads toward Florida City and Everglades National Park.
