The Homestead area has several places to buy fresh produce, and three of them have their own websites: Redland Farmers Market, Robert Is Here and Redland Market Village. This guide covers what each one says about itself. If you are thinking about buying a home at Ivy Ranch, it shows you where local fruit and vegetables come from.

Hours and seasons change. Check each place's own website before you go, or call.

Why Fresh Food Is Easy to Find Here

Homestead is a farm area. The University of Florida's extension service (UF/IFAS) wrote in a February 2024 news post that Homestead stands apart as one of the very few areas in the United States with winter production of fruits and vegetables, along with certain tropical crops and ornamental plants. You can read the post on the UF/IFAS news page.

That is why markets and fruit stands are part of daily life here.

Redland Farmers Market

  • Address: 24801 SW 177th Avenue, Homestead, FL 33031

  • What it sells: Fresh produce and tropical fruit. The site lists coconut, pineapple, papaya, lime, avocado, tomato, cucumber, green plantain and malanga. It also lists food vendors with Latin, Caribbean and international food.

  • Hours: The site lists hours for every day of the week, including evenings. Check the site for the current times.

  • Website: redlandfarmersmarket.com

The market's own words are that it is ""more than a place to shop,"" and a place where fresh food, local culture and community come together. The site does not say whether the market is open all year, so check before you plan a trip.

Robert Is Here

  • Address: 19200 SW 344th Street, Homestead, FL 33034

  • Known for: Fruit and milkshakes. The site says it sells exotic and locally grown fruit, plus hand-blended milkshakes and smoothies made with fresh fruit.

  • The story: The site says the stand began in 1959, when a six-year-old boy named Robert set up a roadside stand with cucumbers and a handmade sign. It grew into a family-run business.

  • Extras: The site also lists a free petting zoo, picnic areas and live music events.

  • Hours: The site says it is open every day. It also says it is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Check before you go.

  • Website: robertishere.com

Redland Market Village

  • Address: 24420 S. Dixie Highway, Redland, FL 33032

  • What it is: The site calls it a flea market on more than 27 acres, with an extensive farmers market and more than 22 international food trucks, plus live entertainment.

  • Days: The site lists the farmers market Thursday through Sunday. The outdoor flea market and the food court are listed for Saturday and Sunday. Check the site for times.

Other Markets

Some markets in the Homestead area are listed on other websites. We only included places whose own sites we could read. If you find a market that is not on this list, check that its hours are current before you go.

How to Shop at a Farmers Market

If you have never shopped at one, here are some easy tips:

  1. Go early. The best items go first.

  2. Bring bags. Reusable bags are handy.

  3. Bring some cash. Not every vendor takes cards.

  4. Ask questions. Vendors love to talk about what they grow.

  5. Taste when you can. Many vendors offer samples.

  6. Buy what is in season. It is fresher and often cheaper.

  7. Keep fruit cool on the way home. A small cooler helps in the Florida heat.

Storing What You Buy

Once you bring produce home, you need space. This is where the kitchen matters.

The Fraser at Ivy Ranch has a spacious walk-in pantry, according to the builder. A pantry is good for dry foods, jars, and small kitchen tools. See our walk-in pantry guide. Fresh produce usually belongs in the refrigerator or in a cool spot, so ask the sales team what the kitchen offers.

The builder describes the Fraser's kitchen as having a large waterfall island, which is a good place to set out groceries and prep food. See our waterfall island guide.

The Camden has about 2,837 square feet, a large island and a separate multigenerational suite. Compare both plans in our Camden vs Fraser guide.

Plants and Fruit Trees

If you want to grow your own, see our guide to nurseries in Homestead. It lists places to buy fruit trees and plants.

Ivy Ranch in Brief

Ivy Ranch is a D.R. Horton community in Homestead. It has two one-story plans, each with four bedrooms and a three-car garage. The builder says it is just west of Krome Avenue. Our Krome Avenue guide explains the road. See the Ivy Ranch community page and the Fraser plan page.

For things to do after shopping, try the Seminole Theatre or the Homestead Rodeo.

What Does an Ivy Ranch Home Cost?

Ivy Ranch homes have recently started in the high $860,000s to the low $880,000s. Lot, options and incentives change the final number, and the builder updates them often. Call 561-704-0091 for today's numbers.

Fruit and Vegetables You Might Try

The Redland Farmers Market's own site lists coconut, pineapple, papaya, lime, avocado, tomato, cucumber, green plantain and malanga. Malanga is a starchy root vegetable that is used in many Caribbean and Latin dishes. If you have never cooked with it, ask a vendor. They are usually happy to explain what to do with it.

Try one new thing each visit. It is a fun way to get to know a new area.

A Simple Market Visit Plan

Pick one market and go once. Notice what you like. Next time, try a second. Many families end up with a favorite stand for fruit and another for lunch. Write down the names of the vendors you like, so you can find them again, and check each market's hours before every trip because they can change.
