"Most people who drive from Port St. Lucie to West Palm Beach use one of two big roads: Florida's Turnpike or Interstate 95 (I-95). Both run north and south, and both reach West Palm Beach. Which one is better changes with the day, so this guide names the roads and exits and shows you how to check live traffic before you leave. We do not give drive times here, because they change too much to be honest.

The two main roads: Florida's Turnpike and I-95

Think of these as two long parallel lanes of travel. You pick one, and you can switch for the trip home.

Florida's Turnpike

The Turnpike is a toll road. A toll road is a road where you pay a fee to use it. Florida's official Turnpike map lists the exits that matter for this trip. You can see the map at Florida's Turnpike exit map.

  • Exit 142 is Port St. Lucie, on Port St. Lucie Blvd.

  • Exit 138 is Becker Rd. This one is SunPass only, so you need a toll transponder (a small device or sticker that pays your toll).

  • Exit 116 is Jupiter, at Indiantown Rd.

  • Exit 109 is Palm Beach Gardens, at PGA Blvd.

  • Exit 99 is West Palm Beach, at Okeechobee Blvd.

So the Turnpike path is simple to describe. You get on at Port St. Lucie or Becker Rd, head south, and get off at Okeechobee Blvd for West Palm Beach.

Interstate 95

It crosses the city with several exits, and a public reference list gives these (check the green signs, because exit numbers can be re-labeled):

  • Exit 114 is Becker Rd.

  • Exit 118 is Gatlin Blvd and Tradition Pkwy.

  • Exit 120 is Crosstown Pkwy.

  • Exit 121 is St. Lucie West Blvd.

  • Exit 126 is Midway Rd.

In West Palm Beach, the same list shows Okeechobee Blvd at Exit 70.

The roads that get you to the highway

Port St. Lucie is a wide city. Where you live decides which road you reach first. These are the main connectors.

  • Port St. Lucie Blvd (also called State Road 716) links U.S. 1 with Florida's Turnpike. It ends at Turnpike Exit 142.

  • Becker Rd reaches both highways. It has an I-95 exit (114) and a Turnpike exit (138).

  • Gatlin Blvd and Tradition Pkwy meet I-95 at Exit 118. They serve the southwest side of the city, near Tradition.

  • Crosstown Pkwy links I-95 with U.S. 1. It cuts across the middle of the city.

  • St. Lucie West Blvd meets I-95 at Exit 121. It serves the St. Lucie West area.

A simple rule helps. If your street is near the south or southwest edge, Becker Rd or Gatlin Blvd is often the natural way out. If you are in the middle of the city, Crosstown Pkwy is the main link. If you are on the east side near U.S. 1, Port St. Lucie Blvd or Crosstown Pkwy comes first. Not sure which is yours? That is a good question for the homesite list. More on that below.

How to choose between the Turnpike and I-95

There is no single right answer. Here are the real trade-offs, in plain words.

Cost. The Turnpike is a toll road, so tolls add up if you drive it every day. Look at the Turnpike's toll rates before you decide. For I-95, check Florida 511 for any tolled lanes on your exact trip.

Exits. The two roads have different exit patterns. Use the exits listed above and pick the one closest to the place you drive to.

Ends of the trip. Okeechobee Blvd is the West Palm Beach exit on both roads. If your job is closer to PGA Blvd or Indiantown Rd, the Turnpike exits at 109 and 116 may fit better. Check where your work really is before you guess.

Backup plan. If one road is blocked by a crash, the other is your way around. Having two good choices is one real plus of living here.

Traffic changes every day, so check it live

We will not tell you how long this trip takes. Traffic changes by day, by hour, by weather and by crashes. A number we print today could be wrong tomorrow.

Instead, use the official tools:

  • Florida 511 at Florida 511 shows live road conditions, crashes and construction on state roads.

  • The Turnpike's own site, Florida's Turnpike site, shows toll and travel information for the toll road.

Try this before you buy. Run the trip on a real weekday at the time you would actually drive. Do it twice. Do it once on a Monday and once on a Friday. Your own test beats any number on a page.

What about the bus?

A local news station has reported that a Port St. Lucie Express bus runs to West Palm Beach (WPTV report). We have not verified the stops, the days or the cost. If you want to ride, check the current schedule with the bus operator before you plan around it.

Why this matters when you pick a home

The Spot Lots homes are not in one neighborhood. They sit on individual homesites on different streets across Port St. Lucie. That means two buyers can both own a Spot Lots home and have very different roads to the highway.

So the best question to ask is this: which road is nearest the exact homesite? Ask it for every available lot you look at. Then open a map and trace the path to Florida's Turnpike or I-95.

You can read more about how the city is laid out in our Port St. Lucie neighborhoods guide. It helps you match a part of the city to a road.

The homes you would be coming home to

If you commute, the house matters too. A long day on the road is easier when the home works for you.

The community page at Port St. Lucie Spot Lots community page lists all five plans. A few that suit a busy household:

  • The Cali has four bedrooms, two baths and a two-car garage. A dedicated laundry space sits near the bedrooms, which helps on busy mornings.

  • The Madison is a one-story home with four bedrooms, three baths and a three-car garage. Two guest bedrooms share a bath, and a third has its own.

  • The Camden is the largest plan, with a Multi-Gen Suite. Read more about how that works in our multigenerational homes guide.

These are builder-published facts. For today's pricing and which homesites are open, call 561-704-0091. Prices change, and we would rather give you a real number than an old one.

Life near the road, and life away from it

A commute is only one part of the week. The rest is where you shop, play and relax.

A simple plan before you decide

  1. Pick two or three homesites you like.

  2. Write down the nearest connector road for each one.

  3. Test the trip to West Palm Beach on a real weekday, at your real time.

  4. Compare Florida's Turnpike and I-95 for each homesite.

  5. Call us and walk through the numbers together.

That is it. No guessing, no one-size-fits-all answer. Port St. Lucie rewards the buyer who checks the map first.

Common Questions

Which is better for the trip, Florida's Turnpike or I-95?

Neither wins every day. The Turnpike is a toll road, so tolls are part of the choice. Check Florida 511 before you leave, and test both on a real weekday.

Which Turnpike exit is Port St. Lucie?

Florida's Turnpike map lists Exit 142 as Port St. Lucie, at Port St. Lucie Blvd. Exit 138 is Becker Rd, and it takes SunPass only. Always confirm by the signs on the road.

Which exit do I use in West Palm Beach?

The Turnpike map lists Exit 99 at Okeechobee Blvd for West Palm Beach. A public reference list shows Okeechobee Blvd at Exit 70 on I-95. Pick the exit that is closest to your real destination.

How do I get to the highway from my part of the city?

It depends on the street. Becker Rd reaches both highways. Gatlin Blvd and Tradition Pkwy reach I-95 at Exit 118. Crosstown Pkwy links I-95 with U.S. 1. Port St. Lucie Blvd links U.S. 1 with the Turnpike.

Is there a bus from Port St. Lucie to West Palm Beach?
