Pickleball in Palm Beach Gardens is easy to find. If you live at Avondale at Avenir, DiVosta lists 6 pickleball courts and 8 tennis courts at Avenir's 16,000-square-foot clubhouse. Beyond Avenir, the City of Palm Beach Gardens runs public courts too, including 10 pickleball courts at its Tennis and Pickleball Center and 24 lighted public courts at Lilac Pickleball Courts.

This guide covers where to play near Avondale at Avenir, what else is at Avenir's clubhouse, and which amenities are still planned.

What pickleball is, in one minute

Pickleball is a paddle sport played on a court about the size of a doubles badminton court. Players use solid paddles and a light plastic ball with holes. It is easy to learn, games are short, and it is played as singles or doubles. That is why it has become so popular with all ages in South Florida.

Pickleball at Avenir's clubhouse

DiVosta lists these amenities for Avondale buyers, all at Avenir:

  • 6 pickleball courts

  • 8 tennis courts

  • A 16,000-square-foot clubhouse

  • A state-of-the-art fitness center with a gym and aerobics area, plus men's and women's locker rooms

  • A heated resort-style pool with waterfalls, a two-lane lap pool and an 8-person spa

  • An event hall, covered outdoor dining and a fire pit

  • Poolside cabanas and shaded pavilions

  • A kids' zone with a splash pad, a children's play room and playgrounds

  • Two event lawns and a fenced dog park

The Avenir developer's own site lists the same court count, 8 tennis and 6 pickleball, at its Blue Heron Clubhouse.

Avenir has also opened a second clubhouse, the Great Egret Clubhouse, which the developer says serves Avenir's western neighborhoods. Its own announcement lists 9 tennis courts and 12 pickleball courts. We could not confirm whether Avondale owners can use it, so ask the sales team before you count on it.

What is still planned

The Avenir developer describes some amenities in future terms, including a working farm and an extended trail network through its conservation land. It also says all amenities are preliminary and can change. We do not list those as open. Call 561-704-0091 to ask what is open on the day you visit.

Public pickleball courts in Palm Beach Gardens

You do not need a clubhouse to play. The City of Palm Beach Gardens runs public courts.

Palm Beach Gardens Tennis and Pickleball Center

The city's Tennis and Pickleball Center is at 5110 117th Court North in Palm Beach Gardens. The city lists 20 Har-Tru clay tennis courts, 4 hard tennis courts and 10 pickleball courts there. Har-Tru is a clay-style court surface that many players find easier on the joints than hard courts. See the city's tennis page for programs and hours.

Lilac Pickleball Courts

The city lists 24 lighted public pickleball courts at Lilac Pickleball Courts, and they are free to use outside of managed play hours. Check the city's Lilac Pickleball Courts page for the schedule and rules.

More city options

The city keeps a pickleball page with leagues, lessons and open play. Check it before you go, since times change by season.

Tennis, golf and the rest of the active life

If tennis is your game, you have Avenir's 8 courts and the city's 24 courts at its Tennis and Pickleball Center. If golf is, the City of Palm Beach Gardens' public course, Sandhill Crane Golf Club, shares Avondale's 33412 ZIP code. Read our Sandhill Crane Golf Club guide.

If you would rather walk or paddle, our guide to Loxahatchee Slough Natural Area and Riverbend Park covers the trails and kayak launches nearby.

Does an amenity-rich community cost more?

Often, yes. Avenir's clubhouse is one reason DiVosta homes at Avondale have recently started higher than the same plans at DiVosta's Hendrix Reserve in Lake Worth. DiVosta lists a pool, a cabana, a playground and grills there, with one pickleball court under construction. For example, the Whitestone has recently started roughly sixty thousand dollars higher at Avondale than at Hendrix Reserve, at the same size.

If courts, a big pool and a gym are things you will use every week, that gap can make sense. If they are not, compare both. Our Classic vs Estate guide and all ten Avondale floor plans compared will help you pick a plan.

What to bring to your first game

You do not need much to start.

  • A paddle. Many city programs lend paddles at beginner sessions, so try before you buy.

  • Court shoes with good side support. Running shoes are made for moving forward, not side to side.

  • Water and a hat. Florida sun is strong, even in winter.

  • A friendly attitude. Open play usually rotates players, so you will meet people fast.

Questions to ask about Avenir's amenities before you buy

The clubhouse is a big part of what you pay for at Avondale, so ask clear questions on your visit.

  • Which clubhouse can Avondale owners use, and are there limits on guests?

  • How do court reservations work, and how far ahead can you book?

  • Are there leagues, lessons or open play times for pickleball and tennis?

  • Which amenities are open today, and which are still planned?

  • How are clubhouse costs paid, and are they part of the Community Association fee?
