Harris Field Park is the City of Homestead's largest recreational park, and it sits about 1.7 miles in a straight line from Heron Pointe. Lennar names it on its Heron Pointe page as one of the nearby parks, calling it a place ""for ball games."" The city says the park is about 47 acres, with baseball, softball, soccer and football fields, basketball courts, a gym court, a large event pavilion and the Homestead Rodeo arena. This guide covers what is there, how to book it, and what the city is planning next.

Harris Field Park at a Glance

Here are the basics, from the City of Homestead's Harris Field Park page:

  • Address: 1034 NE 8th St., Homestead, FL 33030

  • Phone: (305) 224-4570

  • Hours: ""Monday - Sunday: Sunrise to sundown except evening activities""

  • Run by: the City of Homestead

The city calls it ""our largest recreational park"" and says it ""is located in the heart of Homestead.""

Heron Pointe sits outside the city, to the northwest of the park. Measured on a map from Lennar's point for the community to the park's address, the park is about 1.7 miles to the southeast. That is a straight line, not a road route, so the trip by car will be longer. Plug both addresses into your map app to see the real route before you plan a game day.

What You Can Do at Harris Field Park

Ball fields

The city's planning page says the park has ""four baseball fields, three softball fields, soccer and football fields."" That is a lot of fields in one place. If your kids play a field sport, there is a good chance some of their games or practices will be here. The city says, ""For any field related information, please call our office at (305) 224-4570."" Ask which leagues use the fields and when their seasons run, so you know what your weekends might look like before you move.

Courts and the gym

The city lists ""a gymnasium court for basketball and volleyball and outdoor basketball courts."" The gym court can be rented by the hour.

The pavilion

The Sally Woods Barn Pavilion is the park's big event space. The city says it ""is used for many events including wedding receptions, sweet 16's, concerts, auctions, dinner dances, and many more."" It ""holds approximately 600 people under the roof."" The city's feature list also names a ""Pavilion with Barbecue"" and restrooms.

The rodeo arena

The city says Harris Field ""is home to the Homestead Rodeo."" Our guide to the Homestead Rodeo covers what to know before you go.

Other buildings on the grounds

The city says ""The Le Jardin Community Center and the Fraternal Order of Police occupy buildings on the park grounds.""

How to Rent a Field, the Gym or the Pavilion

The city rents out parts of the park, including the gym court, the stadium and the pavilion. Rates on the city page are different for residents and non-residents, and for non-profits.

A few rules the city lists for rentals:

  • You ""Must provide general liability insurance.""

  • Some events need police coverage. The city says you ""Must provide recommended police coverage by FOP (Homestead Police Only).""

  • ""Please note that only one rental is allowed per day.""

For dates and current rates, the city says to ""contact our office at (305) 224-4570 for availability and rental information.""

A note for Heron Pointe buyers: the county map puts Heron Pointe in unincorporated Miami-Dade, outside the City of Homestead. Ask the city whether you would pay the resident or non-resident rate before you book. Our county-map guide for Heron Pointe buyers explains the city-versus-county question.

The City's Plans to Reimagine Harris Field Park

The City of Homestead is working on a plan for the park's future. The city's Reimagining Harris Field Park page says the city ""has plans to revitalize the facilities and identity of Harris Field Park by establishing a shared vision guided by the community.""

The page says the plan will look at ""existing facilities and programs,"" find ""recreational needs,"" and create ""a conceptual design framework."" The city has been holding public workshops. If you buy nearby, check that page for the next meeting and share what you would like to see.

Plans like this take time, and nothing is built until the city approves it. Treat the planning page as a look at what may come, not a promise.

Other Parks Near Heron Pointe

Lennar names three parks near Heron Pointe: Seminole Wayside Park, South Dade Park and Harris Field Park. Lennar describes South Dade Park as ""featuring pools and splash areas, along with sports courts and a skate park.""

Planning a Day at Harris Field

A few simple tips make a visit easier:

  • Call before a big outing. The city lists hours of sunrise to sundown ""except evening activities,"" so some nights the park may be busy with events. The parks office number is (305) 224-4570.

  • Know what is there. The city's feature list includes baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, football fields, soccer fields, a pavilion with barbecue, and restrooms.

  • Check the event calendar. Rodeo days and pavilion events can fill the park. Ask the city what is booked on the day you plan to go.

  • Bring what you need. The city page does not list a snack bar, so pack water and snacks for long game days.

Who Runs the Park

Harris Field is a City of Homestead park, run by the city's Parks, Recreation, & Open Spaces Department. The planning page lists the department's phone as 305-224-4570. Because the park belongs to the city, city rules apply there. The city links its rules and regulations and its frequently asked questions from the facility page, so read those before you book.

Lennar also names South Dade Park and Seminole Wayside Park near Heron Pointe. Ask who runs any park before you plan around it, because different park owners can have different rules and booking steps.

Why Harris Field Matters When You Pick a Home

A park this size shapes weekends for a lot of families. If your kids play baseball, softball, soccer or football, ask the league where games are held. If you host big parties, the pavilion is a place to know about.

At Heron Pointe, the plans with the most room for family gatherings also have both a living room and a family room. Our post on the formal living room in each Heron Pointe plan shows which plans give you two places to sit.
