Homestead FL Utilities: Who Serves Acacia Groves Homes

In this article
Homestead FL utilities depend on which side of the city line you live on. Inside the City of Homestead, many homes get power and water from the city's own utility, Homestead Public Services. Acacia Groves sits outside the city in unincorporated Miami-Dade. County records show its water and sewer come from Miami-Dade Water and Sewer, and the city's own electric map puts it outside the city's power area. This guide walks through each service so you know who to call when you move in.

Homestead FL utilities: why the address can fool you
Acacia Groves homes have a Homestead mailing address and ZIP code 33034. That makes it easy to assume the City of Homestead runs everything. It does not.
On Miami-Dade County's address map, the Acacia Groves homesites we checked are listed as unincorporated Miami-Dade, not inside any city. Utilities follow service areas, not mailing addresses. So the city that prints on your mail may not be the one that sends your bills.
If you want the full story on the city line, our guide to which county Homestead is in explains how the county map, the mailing city and the builder's label all fit together.
Electric: Homestead's map vs FPL
The City of Homestead runs its own electric utility, HPS Energy, also called Homestead Energy Services. The city says HPS Energy has provided energy service to Homestead since 1916, and that it generates, distributes and sells power to homes and businesses in its service area.
The key words are ""service area."" The city's own page says: ""To find out if your electrical service is provided by the City of Homestead through Homestead Energy Services or by Florida Power and Light Company (FPL), view the Homestead Energy Services Area Map.""
We looked at that service area map from the City of Homestead. On the map, the electric boundary runs along SW 192nd Avenue on its west side and SW 328th Street on its south side. Acacia Groves sits near SW 336th Street and SW 194th Avenue. That is south and west of those lines, so it falls outside the city's electric area on the map.
Two cautions before you count on that:
The map file is not brand new. The PDF on the city's site was last changed in 2019. Service areas can shift.
Your homesite is what counts. Ask Lennar's sales team to confirm the electric company for your exact homesite before closing.
For homes outside the city's area, the city's page points buyers to FPL and lists FPL's residential line as (305) 442-8770.

Water and sewer: Miami-Dade Water and Sewer
The City of Homestead also runs HPS Water, which the city says provides drinking water and wastewater treatment for its residents.
Acacia Groves sits outside the city, though. Miami-Dade County's mapping shows the community inside the water and sewer service areas of Miami-Dade Water and Sewer (the county utility). We checked both the water layer and the sewer layer at the community's location, and both name the county utility.
To start service in your name, the county's water and sewer account page lets you start service online through its Self-Service Application, or by phone. It also covers transfers if you are moving from another address the county already serves.
Trash and recycling: Miami-Dade Solid Waste
Garbage pickup works the same way. Miami-Dade County's Solid Waste Management department says it provides waste collection and recycling to unincorporated Miami-Dade County, along with a list of cities.
Because Acacia Groves is in unincorporated Miami-Dade, the county is the place to look for your pickup days. The county's waste collection page covers pickup days, holiday changes and bulky trash pickups.
Fire and emergency service
Miami-Dade County's fire station map places the Acacia Groves location inside the territory of Station 16. In an emergency, call 911. You do not need to know your station number to get help.
Your move-in utility checklist
Here is who to contact for each service once you have a closing date:
Service | Who to contact for Acacia Groves |
|---|---|
Electric | Confirm with Lennar for your homesite; the city's map points outside-area homes to FPL |
Water and sewer | Miami-Dade Water and Sewer |
Trash and recycling | Miami-Dade Solid Waste Management |
Mailing address | U.S. Postal Service, Homestead 33034 |
A few more tasks tend to come up in the same weeks. Updating your license and other records is one. Our guide to becoming a Florida resident after you buy lists the steps and dates.
Your property tax bill will also come from Miami-Dade, not the city. Our Miami-Dade property tax guide explains when it arrives and how it is figured.

Questions to ask Lennar about utilities
The sales team can check details for a specific homesite, so start there. Ask:
Which electric company serves my homesite?
Is the home already connected to county water and sewer at closing?
Do I need to open accounts before closing, or after?
Will I need to place deposits with any of the utilities?
Who do I call if something is not working in the first weeks?
Write down the names and numbers they give you. Then check them against the county and city pages linked in this guide. If any answer does not match what the county or city shows, ask again.
A quick word on the mailing address
Your mail will say Homestead, FL 33034. That is normal for this area, and it is the address you will use on forms and deliveries. It does not change who provides your services. When a form asks whether you live inside city limits, the county's address map is the record to go by, and for the Acacia Groves homesites we checked, it says unincorporated Miami-Dade.
Inside the city vs outside: a quick compare
If you are deciding between a community inside Homestead and one just outside, utilities are one of the real differences. Our buyer's guide to living inside Homestead city limits shows what that side of the line looks like.
At Acacia Groves, the standard home package also matters for move-in. Lennar lists a smart thermostat, a Ring Video Doorbell Pro and a washer and dryer as included. Our guide to the Acacia Groves included list, financing and warranty covers the full list.
